In August 2016, UNICRI conducted an assessment mission in Mali to present its programme on Rehabilitation & Reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders (VEOs), developed within the framework of the UN Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF). The presentation was addressed to key national and international stakeholders and aimed to ensure their engagement.
From 22 to 24 October 2018, UNICRI and the Jordanian Corrections and Rehabilitation Centres Department (CRCD) are holding a Training of Trainers Course for Psychologists and Social Workers on the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders (VEOs) in prison settings.
Within the framework of the High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies convened by the UN Secretary-General at the UN HQs on 28-29 June 2018, a Side-event on Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Violent Extremist Offenders was held at the United States Permanent Mission on 28 June.
The round table meeting titled "Intercultural Integration Models" will take place in Rome on 7 June 2017.
From 7 to 9 December 2016 the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) organized a specialized training on rehabilitation and reintegration of violent extremist offenders in prison. The initiative was implemented in cooperation with the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism, The Hague (ICCT), and the support of the Justice and Correction Section of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA/JCS).
The Ugandan break-dancer and social visionary, Tekya Abraham (known as Abramz) was given the 2016 San Patrignano’s WeFree Award by the Director of UNICRI, Cindy J. Smith on 12 October. The WeFree Award recognizes people who have distinguished themselves with personal and professional commitment to the protection of youth’s rights.
